Four small figures in one kit
$37.95
Crochet four small amigurumi figures in soft chunky yarn: a green frog, a sleepy brown cat, an orange octopus and a penguin. Yarn, hook, eyes, stuffing and instructions are included.
Expected delivery Wed, Nov 4 to Mon, Nov 9
Yarn in black, white, green, orange, tan and yellow, a crochet hook, a yarn needle, stitch markers, eyes for all four figures, fiberfill stuffing and printed instructions.
Soft, chunky yarn in a polyester and acrylic blend. Spot clean the finished figure with a damp cloth and let it air dry.
Practice a magic ring and a few rounds of single crochet with a spare length of yarn first. Crochet fairly tightly: soft, chunky yarn is forgiving, but loose stitches leave gaps the stuffing can show through.

Four figures in one box means four chances to get better, and you can see it happen from the first figure to the last. They are all small, rounded shapes, so each one is a short project on its own:
A good order is octopus first, then the penguin, the frog and the cat. The octopus is a simple ball with legs; the penguin adds a color change; the frog adds raised eyes; and the cat has the most parts to sew on. Each finished figure is about 1.5 to 2.5 in (4 to 6 cm) tall.
Amigurumi are small stuffed figures crocheted in the round. Each piece starts with a magic ring, a small adjustable loop, and grows in a spiral of single crochet stitches. Adding stitches, called increases, makes the piece wider; working two stitches together, a decrease, closes it again. Put a stitch marker in the first stitch of every round so you always know where a round begins, and count your stitches at the end of each one.
Most of the shaping happens on its own. Follow the stitch counts in the pattern and the ball, the body or the shell takes shape round by round. Stuff each piece firmly before you close it, then sew the parts together with the yarn needle.
Repetition is how crochet sticks. Making the same few stitches across four different shapes means the magic ring, the increases and the decreases become second nature, and you finish with a little family of figures for a shelf or a desk.
Plan on about 6 to 10 hours for all four, or roughly 1.5 to 2.5 hours per figure. The first one is the slowest while you learn the magic ring and the stitch counts; by the third you will be noticeably faster. Each figure is a complete project, so you can stop after any one of them.
When every part is done, pin the pieces in place before you sew, so you can check the look from every side. Sew them on with the yarn needle, then pass each yarn tail through the body a couple of times and trim it close, so the ends disappear inside. Fix the eyes the way the instructions show.
Delivery is $6.95, and free on orders from $49. The delivery estimate for your address shows on this page and at checkout. You can return the kit within 30 days of delivery; return shipping is yours unless it arrives faulty or wrong. See delivery and returns for the details, or compare the other crochet kits.
The octopus. It is a simple ball with short legs, so you can learn the magic ring and the increases before you try the color change on the penguin.
Each one is about 1.5 to 2.5 in (4 to 6 cm) tall, small enough to sit in your palm.
Yes. The yarn, hook, needle, stitch markers, eyes, stuffing and instructions are all in the box. A pair of scissors is the only thing to add.
