This is a single pair of circular knitting needles. The tips are made of bamboo, and the two tips are joined by a stainless steel tube. The tube flexes as you work, so stitches slide along without catching. Bamboo has a light, warm feel in the hand and a gentle grip that helps keep stitches from slipping off between rows.
Circular needles are useful for more than knitting in the round. You can also use them to knit flat pieces, since the tube holds the weight of the project in your lap instead of on your wrists.
The needles come in 11 sizes. Each option is a single pair at the size you pick. The table below shows each metric size with its US number.
| Metric size | US size |
|---|---|
| 3.0 mm | US 2 |
| 3.5 mm | US 4 |
| 4.0 mm | US 6 |
| 4.5 mm | US 7 |
| 5.0 mm | US 8 |
| 5.5 mm | US 9 |
| 6.0 mm | US 10 |
| 7.0 mm | US 10.5 |
| 8.0 mm | US 11 |
| 9.0 mm | US 13 |
| 10.0 mm | US 15 |
All sizes share the same 31.5 in (80 cm) length. Match the size to the yarn and pattern you plan to use. Most yarn labels list a recommended needle size, which is a good starting point. If you are between sizes, a smaller needle gives a tighter fabric and a larger needle gives a looser one.
At 31.5 in (80 cm), the tube gives you room for a full sweater body, a shawl, a blanket or a hat worked in the round. The same length works for flat pieces too, since the extra tube simply rests in your lap. For small pieces like socks or baby sleeves, you can use the same needles with a loop technique, or simply let the tube hold the stitches while you work back and forth.
Cast on as you would with any pair of needles. Slide the stitches along the tube as you work, and keep the tips pointed toward each other. When you join to work in the round, check that the cast-on edge is not twisted before you knit the first stitch. Place a stitch marker at the join so you can track the start of each round.
For flat knitting, turn your work at the end of each row as usual. The tube will hang below your hands, which keeps the project from pulling on the needles.
Wipe the bamboo tips with a dry or barely damp cloth. Keep them away from prolonged soaking, since bamboo can warp when it stays wet. Store the pair flat or loosely coiled so the tube does not kink. If the tube feels stiff, let it rest in a straight line for a while before your next project.
The needles come in 3.0 mm, 3.5 mm, 4.0 mm, 4.5 mm, 5.0 mm, 5.5 mm, 6.0 mm, 7.0 mm, 8.0 mm, 9.0 mm and 10.0 mm. Each option is a single pair at the size you choose.
Each pair measures 31.5 in (80 cm) from tip to tip, including the stainless steel tube. That length suits sweaters, shawls, blankets and other larger projects.
The tips are bamboo and the tube is stainless steel. The bamboo gives a light grip, and the steel tube flexes as you work.
Each order is a single pair of circular knitting needles in the size you select. If you need two sizes, add each size separately.
