These are straight knitting needles made from stainless steel in a plain silver finish. The surface is smooth, so yarn slides along without catching, and the metal holds its shape over long projects. Each pack contains 5 needles in the size you choose.
Straight needles like these suit flat knitting: scarves, blankets, dishcloths, simple sweaters knit in panels, and practice swatches. If you are new to knitting, a smooth metal needle is a friendly place to start because stitches move easily and you can see them clearly.
Every needle is 15 in (38 cm) long. The size you pick sets the stitch gauge, so match it to the yarn weight and the pattern you are following.

As a rough guide, the smallest sizes suit fine yarns such as lace and sock weight. The middle sizes, around 3.5 mm to 4.0 mm, are common for DK and light worsted yarns. The larger sizes, 4.5 mm and 5.0 mm, work well with worsted and aran weight yarns. Your pattern always has the final say, so check the recommended needle size on the label or in the instructions.
The needles come in silver only. The finish is bare polished stainless steel with no coating to wear off, which keeps the surface consistent from the first row to the last. Silver also makes stitch definition easy to read against most yarn colors, including dark and variegated yarns.
Pick the size that matches your pattern, then knit a small swatch before you begin a garment. Wash and dry the swatch the way you plan to care for the finished piece, then measure your stitch count. If it differs from the pattern gauge, move up or down a needle size until it matches.
Straight needles are held one in each hand, with the working yarn feeding from the right needle. They work flat, so you knit a row, turn the work, and knit back. For projects knit in the round, such as hats and socks, you would need circular or double pointed needles instead.
A few habits keep knitting comfortable. Let the yarn feed loosely from the ball rather than pulling it tight. Rest your hands every so often during long sessions. If your stitches feel tight on the needle, try a larger size or a lighter yarn.
Stainless steel needs very little care. Wipe the needles with a dry or slightly damp cloth if they pick up hand oils or yarn fibers, then dry them right away. Store them in a case, a pouch, or a small box so the tips stay straight and the pairs stay together. Keep them away from damp storage over long periods, and they will stay smooth for years of projects.
If you knit with wool, a faint natural oil can build up on the metal over time. A quick wipe with a soft cloth is enough to bring the surface back. Avoid abrasive pads, which can scratch the finish.
These needles work with any yarn you already have, from cotton and linen to wool and acrylic blends. They also fit well alongside the other kits in our knitting range if you like to keep a project bag ready to go. Choose one size for a single project, or collect a few sizes so you can swatch and adjust without waiting.
Each pack contains 5 needles in the size you select. All needles in a pack are the same size.
The options run from 1.5 mm to 5.0 mm. Available sizes include 1.5 mm, 2.0 mm, 2.5 mm, 3.0 mm, 3.5 mm, 4.0 mm, 4.5 mm and 5.0 mm.
Each needle is 15 in (38 cm) long. That length suits flat projects like scarves, blankets and panel knitting.
Yes. The smooth stainless steel surface lets stitches slide easily, which helps new knitters see and move each stitch. Start with a mid size such as 4.0 mm and a worsted weight yarn.
