A full-drill printed canvas with adhesive under a protective film, resin drills sorted into numbered bags, a drill pen, a tray, a wax pad and instructions.

Materials and care

Printed canvas with a pre-applied adhesive layer, and resin drills. Keep the finished piece out of strong sun, dust it with a soft dry brush and never wash it. Press any loose drill back into place with the pen.

Before you start

Lay the canvas flat under a few heavy books for a day if it has creases. Peel back only a strip of film at a time, keep the rest covered so the adhesive stays tacky, and work under a bright, even light.

About the designs

The designs borrow the look of Japanese ink painting: misty mountains in washes of gray, crisp black rooftops and branches, and red blossom scattered across the scene. All seven are portrait canvases.

  • Cat by the lake: a black cat on a wooden jetty, watching a misty village under red blossom and a red sun.
  • Red umbrella: a small boat with a figure under a red umbrella, gliding past a lakeside village.
  • Twin pagodas: two pagodas in the mountains, joined by a red arched bridge over the water.
  • Temple steps: stone steps up to a red shrine under orange maple trees.
  • Red pagoda: a five-story red pagoda among red blossom, with green hills behind.
  • Red sun Fuji: a huge red sun behind snowy Mount Fuji and a black pagoda, with birds in the sky.
  • Torii and Fuji: a red torii gate in front of Mount Fuji, framed by dark trees and their reflection.

Why it is a calm first canvas

Large areas of white and soft gray are restful to fill, and the red and black details add the drama. Because the palette is so limited, the finished piece hangs well in almost any room, and two or three designs side by side read as one set.

Size and drills

Every design comes on a 16 x 20 in (40 x 50 cm) canvas, a size that fits a standard frame.

Round drills catch the light from every side and forgive a slightly crooked placement, so they are the easy choice for a first canvas. Square drills sit edge to edge with no gaps, which gives a smoother, more painted look, but each one needs to line up with its neighbors. The canvas size and the picture are the same either way.

How long it takes

We estimate about 18 to 32 hours, based on the canvas area and a relaxed pace of 800 to 1,500 drills an hour. A first canvas usually takes a little longer while you find your rhythm, and you can stop for days as long as the film covers the part you have not reached.

What is in the kit

  • A full-drill printed canvas with adhesive under a protective film
  • Resin drills sorted into numbered bags
  • A drill pen, a tray and a wax pad for the pen tip
  • Instructions

Frames are not included; the photos show finished canvases framed for display. A thin black or natural wood frame suits the ink style best.

Questions

Is this a good first diamond art kit?

Yes. The wide areas of white and gray are easy to fill, the canvas is a manageable 16 x 20 in (40 x 50 cm), and everything you need is in the box. Round drills are the most forgiving choice.

Do I get all seven designs?

No, each kit is one design, picked in the Design menu. The shared black, gray and red palette means any two or three designs hang well together as a set.

How long does it take?

About 18 to 32 hours at a relaxed 800 to 1,500 drills an hour. Keep the protective film over the unfinished part and you can put it down for days without the adhesive drying out.
