The forest packs a whole woodland into one square: red and white toadstools, pale mushrooms by a tree stump, blueberries and red berries, a white hare, an owl on a branch and a small golden hut on stilts under a crescent moon. A blue pond and a picket fence fill the gaps, and a fine gold border closes it all in.
The Greenhouse keeps the same black ground and folk style with tall pink spires, a curling fern, a campfire, a stream under a little bridge and bold orange ornaments in two corners. Hang the pair side by side and they read as one set.
Both designs are worked in full cross stitch on black Aida. On 14-count the piece finishes at 11 x 11 in (28 x 28 cm). The Greenhouse also comes on 18-count, which finishes at 8.7 x 8.7 in (22 x 22 cm) with finer, denser stitches. The chart and the stitch count are the same either way.
Black fabric makes every color glow, but its holes are harder to see than on white. Stitch by a daylight lamp, or lay a pale cloth across your lap so light shows through the weave.
The chart is about 155 stitches square and a little over half of it is stitched, so plan on roughly 14,000 crosses. At a typical pace of 100 to 150 stitches an hour, that comes to about 95 to 140 hours. Spread over a season of evenings, it is a long, calm project rather than a weekend one.
A hoop, scissors and a frame are not included. The fabric arrives folded, so press it from the back with a warm iron before you start. A 12 x 12 in (30 x 30 cm) frame leaves a slim margin around the 14-count piece.
Delivery is $6.95, and free on orders from $49. The delivery estimate for your address shows on this page and at checkout. You can return the kit within 30 days of delivery; return shipping is yours unless it arrives faulty or wrong. See delivery and returns for the details, or compare the other cross stitch kits.
No. This is counted cross stitch: the Aida is plain black and you follow the printed symbol chart, counting squares as you go. It takes a little longer to start, and it leaves no printed lines to cover.
14-count is easier on the eyes and finishes at 11 x 11 in (28 x 28 cm). 18-count, offered for the Greenhouse design, finishes at 8.7 x 8.7 in (22 x 22 cm) with finer stitches. The chart is the same.
About 95 to 140 hours for roughly 14,000 stitches at 100 to 150 stitches an hour. Faster stitchers finish sooner, and you can put it down for weeks and pick it up again.
